I did a scary thing today.  I sold nearly $100,000 of stock today!

Since starting at my tech company, I’ve been acquiring company stock (awards + ESPP) for nearly 3 years, and I have only sold 3 shares – mostly as an experiment to understand how the system works.  My company stock ruled my investment portfolio, comprising more than 2x the next largest holding. 

If I want to FIRE, I need passive income to replace my job.  My strategy is to invest in a strong dividend portfolio.  I sold $100k of tech company stock to purchase a significant stake in a REIT dividend stock.  This investment, once recovered from COVID, will produce $48,000 per year in dividends.  This will pay my rent / mortgage!

Phase 2 of my strategy is to double this investment (or with other dividend stakes) to approach $100k per year in dividend income.
